\r\n DROID RAZR M: Everything Root\r\n
\r\n \r\n\r\n\r\n \r\n \r\n
\r\n
\r\n
\r\n Razr M (XT907): Everything Root
\n
\nDISCLAIMER: Razr Forums nor I are responsible for what you do to your phone. Root and ROM at your own risk.
\n
\nInstall on your PC:
\nRSD Lite: HERE
\nADB Drivers: HERE
\n
\nRoot Your RAZR M:
\nHUGE thanks to djrbliss for finding this exploit and compiling this!
\n1) Have the latest ADB Drivers installed (see above).
\n2) Download and extract THIS zip.
\n3) Have USB Debugging enabled (Settings -> Applications -> Development).
\n4) Connect your phone to the PC with a USB cable (preferably the one that came with your phone).
\n5) Double click “run.bat” and follow the instructions
\n
\nRooting Tips:
\n1) If you get an error like, "run-as: Package \'com.motorola.bug2go\' is unknown". You must wipe data and catch, then try again.
\n2) Rooting seems to work best with a “clean” factory reset phone (Settings -> Privacy-> Factory Data Reset). All data will be removed, even stuff on your internal memory storage. If there is ANYTHING you want in there, move it to your SD card and/or onto your computer. Do basic initial set up, then root.
\n3) Alternative key combination to get needed error: turn volume all the way down then hold power and volume up together. If you feel a vibration immediately, hold a few seconds longer until you get a second vibration. May have to try more than once.
\n4) Some have found they need to replace the su and superuser.apk files in the extracted zip before doing “run.bat”. If the original doesn’t work, delete the su and superuser.apk files in the extracted zip and replace them the ones found HERE.
\n
\nMac OS X users check out THIS.
\n
\nUPDATE: Root Method for 4.1.2 (4.0.4 and 4.1.1 also)
\nWe can all thank djrbliss for once again giving to the Android Community!
\n
\n"The Motochopper exploit is attached to this thread. It may be used as follows:
\nExtract the entire contents of the zip file.
\nIf you are using Windows, ensure you have installed the latest Motorola USB drivers available for your phone.
\nEnsure USB Debugging mode is enabled on your device.
\nIf you are using Windows, navigate to the extracted directory and execute "run.bat". If you are using Linux or OS X, navigate to the extracted directory in a terminal and execute "./run.sh".
\nAs always, future OTA updates may remove the ability to regain root access, so proceed with caution when updating. Enjoy!"
\n
\nDownload at Original Thread
\n
\nFastboot (return to stock)
\n1) Download the Fastboot files from HERE. They are big files. ALWAYS CHECK the MD5 SUM! also PLEASE make sure that you are using the correct fastboot files for the version of android you are running!
\n2) Have drivers installed (see above).
\n3) Download and install RSD Lite (see above).
\n4) open RSDLite
\n5) Enter Fastboot mode on phone- power down phone
\n- hold volume up+volume down+power until the menu shows up
\n- use volume down to highlight AP Fastboot and press volume up to select it
\n- do this quickly or phone auto reboots
\n
6) Connect phone to PC
\n7) Select your phone. It will be in line 1 and most likely say fastboot in the model name.
\n8) Click the "..." then select the fastboot file that you downloaded
\n9) Then select uncompress and flash
\nThe whole process may take up to 15 minutes so don\'t freak out.. in fact just walk away and come back. Messing with the phone/cord during the the flashing process can end in disaster!
\n

\nThis is the screen that will first come up in #5. Sorry the image is blurry.
\n
\nmattlgroff has so kindly made utilities for the RAZR M: HERE
\n1.10 will root 4.04 AND 4.1.1 but will ONLY fastboot 4.1.1
\n1.20 will root 4.0.4-4.1.2, fastboot 4.1.2 ONLY, and unlock your bootloader (see below for more details)
\n
\n
\nCustom ROMs:
\n1) MUST be rooted (see above).
\n2) You need SafeStrap. Get the latest SS for the RAZR M HERE (current version 3.12). Learn how to install and use SafeStrap HERE.
\n
\nKnown RAZR M Custom ROM List:
\nWorking on this now. These are listed in no particular order. The best way, to stay up to date with your favorite ROM, is to follow the developer on Twitter. Please follow the developers install instructions. Remember, they donate their time and effort to the android community. Don\'t forget to thank them for all that they do!

\r\n Hello, just a couple questions about rooting.
\n
\nI am new to it and want to do it, but obviously want to make sure I am taking everything into consideration.
\n
\nAfter I root my Razr M, is there any way for me to brick my phone or is that something that happens when initially rooting and restoring the stock system?
\n
\nAlso, what apps are safe to delete off the phone and wont mess up the system?
\n
\nAnd last, what happens if the Razr M gets the OTA update to 4.2 or 5.0 (if it is supported that far.) How would I handle my root and getting that update and continuing on?
\n
\nThanks for the info so far and great guide!\r\n

\r\n The only way you could possibly brick your device is if you went into system/ and really started deleting or messing around with things after you are rooted. Even then it\'d probably only be a soft brick that a fastboot restore could get you out of... The simple answer is no, rooting the phone won\'t brick anything.
\n
\nAbout the apps, someone who has the M will have to respond.
\n
\nIf you are rooted when the OTA comes around then that\'s fine. If you have frozen or deleted any bloat or other files then you will need to replace them before you can OTA. (That\'s why I only ever freeze things, so they can easily be restored.) If all the files are in place then you can take the OTA no problem. If you want to protect root through an ota, download Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper from the play store (its free.) Open the app, protect root, temporarily unroot, take the OTA and once it\'s installed open Voodoo again and restore root.\r\n

\r\n Like Cliff said, you have to do some major monkey business to truly brick a phone. I highly recommend that you have fastboot ready before root. It is one of those things that is better to have ready then try and put together when you are panicked.
\n
\nI will try to get a list of safe bloat to remove/freeze. I\'m running a custom ROM (Flying Jelly 1.0) on stock. So if there was an ota, I would just fastboot to make sure all was back the way it is supposed to be.\r\n

\r\n Read all of the posting about rooting, prior to doing it. Make sure you have all of the files and the backup files in case something goes wrong. Make sure your battery has a good charge before starting as well.

Yes, these instructions are for safe rooting. Though I take no responsibility for what you do to your phone. Additionally, I dont use hotspot (of any kind) so I can\'t say.\r\n

\r\n Getting my Razr M tomorrow, unless the salesrep talks me into something else at the last minute. (Would have to be some amazing deal to change my mind now.) My personal plan is to root, make a backup, debloat with Titanium Backup, and stay with stock JB for now. After I get used to it and have more time to evaluate the custom ROMs, I will probably give them a try as well. I have found it is easier to judge the benefits of a custom ROM when you have something to compare it to, and I\'m coming from GB, having missed ICS altogether.\r\n

\r\n I\'m having a major issue with trying to root my Razr M OTA JB. I tried every possible way I can find on various forums. I factory reset, wiped, whatever you wanna call it (lost a few things on the internal memory) and still cant get it to work. On a few occasions, the Superuser app was there after a reboot but when denied root privileges when trying to update binary or use Titanium backup. My main purpose for rooting is wifi tether so I can make good use of my unlimited data plan. Below should be a screen shot of the command prompt screen form motofail2go. It seems after the bug report is where my issue lies. Been trying this for weeks now with no success.

\r\n Alright, got my M yesterday, had it rooted, debloated, etc within just a few minutes. Now I want to try reverting it back to stock. I have downloaded the latest version of the Motorola Device Manager and installed it, and all of those drivers installed properly. I downloaded the JB stock file called VZW_XT907_4.1.1-9.8.1Q-27-2-4_1FF.xml.zip from the link you provided, and verified the MD5sum was correct. I downloaded and installed RSD Lite version 5.7 (not from the link you provided, as there doesn\'t appear to be a link for it there). After some finagling, I managed to get my phone into ADFastboot Flash mode. However, when I connect my USB cable, clinking Show Device does nothing. There is a place below that shows
\nrsdlite.png. The model field there says Fastboot SMQ S.
\nCan I just to the stock file zip and continue on (which I doubt), or what do I have to do to get it to say XT907 there? I have tried both with and without USB debugging enabled.I should also mention if I go to a command prompt and run ADB Devices, it finds the phone, no problem, and RSD Lite sees it as the XT907 then as well.\r\n

\r\n The link i was referring to is the one for RSD Lite - I was unable to find any viable link to it on the page I get directed to, which is "Cell Phone News - Phone Arena". What I found was causing me trouble was the version of rsd lite I had installed from a Google search, version 5.6. It would fail to install at step 17 which was /system. The solution was to install RSD Lite 6.1.4 or higher. I\'ve linked it here from my Mediafire account RSD Lite 6.1.5 as well as the MTK patch 28 (which I didn\'t use but maybe you will want it.)\r\n

The link i was referring to is the one for RSD Lite - I was unable to find any viable link to it on the page I get directed to, which is "
Cell Phone News - Phone Arena". What I found was causing me trouble was the version of rsd lite I had installed from a Google search, version 5.6. It would fail to install at step 17 which was /system. The solution was to install RSD Lite 6.1.4 or higher. I\'ve linked it here from my Mediafire account
RSD Lite 6.1.5 as well as the
MTK patch 28 (which I didn\'t use but maybe you will want it.)

Someone eles was asking about those files. Sorry, I did check the link for RSDLITE. I will next time I get to the computer.\r\n

There is a new root method that can be used on 4.1.2. I wasn\'t able to get this fully updated before I had to leave the house. I\'ll get that link when I get home.

\r\n Plan is to root and install ROM tonight. If I unlock the bootloader on my M, do I still have to use SafeStrap? Coming from a Gnex I am used to unlocked bootloader, obtain root, install custom recovery, and start flashing.
\r\n
\r\nThis is bringing back memories of bootstrap for my DX and I want to make sure I got my plan in place before I start the process. Hope you\'re not busy tonight hillmom if I run into any problems! Doubt I will though with such an awesome guide to follow.\r\n

Thanks!
\n
\nThere are very few things right now that are only for an unlocked bootloader. You can just use safestrap or you can install a custom recovery (hope to get that info up tonight). If using SS and you want the custom ROM on stock, you need to flash it to slot 1,set up, make a backup and restore the back up to stock.
\n
\nHappy rooting and flashing!\r\n

DROID RAZR M: Everything Root
Razr M (XT907): Everything Root
DISCLAIMER: Razr Forums nor I are responsible for what you do to your phone. Root and ROM at your own risk.
Install on your PC:
RSD Lite: HERE
ADB Drivers: HERE
Root Your RAZR M:
HUGE thanks to djrbliss for finding this exploit and compiling this!
1) Have the latest ADB Drivers installed (see above).
2) Download and extract THIS zip.
3) Have USB Debugging enabled (Settings -> Applications -> Development).
4) Connect your phone to the PC with a USB cable (preferably the one that came with your phone).
5) Double click “run.bat” and follow the instructions
Rooting Tips:
1) If you get an error like, "run-as: Package 'com.motorola.bug2go' is unknown". You must wipe data and catch, then try again.
2) Rooting seems to work best with a “clean” factory reset phone (Settings -> Privacy-> Factory Data Reset). All data will be removed, even stuff on your internal memory storage. If there is ANYTHING you want in there, move it to your SD card and/or onto your computer. Do basic initial set up, then root.
3) Alternative key combination to get needed error: turn volume all the way down then hold power and volume up together. If you feel a vibration immediately, hold a few seconds longer until you get a second vibration. May have to try more than once.
4) Some have found they need to replace the su and superuser.apk files in the extracted zip before doing “run.bat”. If the original doesn’t work, delete the su and superuser.apk files in the extracted zip and replace them the ones found HERE.
Mac OS X users check out THIS.
UPDATE: Root Method for 4.1.2 (4.0.4 and 4.1.1 also)
We can all thank djrbliss for once again giving to the Android Community!
"The Motochopper exploit is attached to this thread. It may be used as follows:
Extract the entire contents of the zip file.
If you are using Windows, ensure you have installed the latest Motorola USB drivers available for your phone.
Ensure USB Debugging mode is enabled on your device.
If you are using Windows, navigate to the extracted directory and execute "run.bat". If you are using Linux or OS X, navigate to the extracted directory in a terminal and execute "./run.sh".
As always, future OTA updates may remove the ability to regain root access, so proceed with caution when updating. Enjoy!"
Download at Original Thread
Fastboot (return to stock)
1) Download the Fastboot files from HERE. They are big files. ALWAYS CHECK the MD5 SUM! also PLEASE make sure that you are using the correct fastboot files for the version of android you are running!
2) Have drivers installed (see above).
3) Download and install RSD Lite (see above).
4) open RSDLite
5) Enter Fastboot mode on phone- power down phone
- hold volume up+volume down+power until the menu shows up
- use volume down to highlight AP Fastboot and press volume up to select it
- do this quickly or phone auto reboots
6) Connect phone to PC
7) Select your phone. It will be in line 1 and most likely say fastboot in the model name.
8) Click the "..." then select the fastboot file that you downloaded
9) Then select uncompress and flash
The whole process may take up to 15 minutes so don't freak out.. in fact just walk away and come back. Messing with the phone/cord during the the flashing process can end in disaster!
IMG_0391 fix.jpg
This is the screen that will first come up in #5. Sorry the image is blurry.
mattlgroff has so kindly made utilities for the RAZR M: HERE
1.10 will root 4.04 AND 4.1.1 but will ONLY fastboot 4.1.1
1.20 will root 4.0.4-4.1.2, fastboot 4.1.2 ONLY, and unlock your bootloader (see below for more details)
Custom ROMs:
1) MUST be rooted (see above).
2) You need SafeStrap. Get the latest SS for the RAZR M HERE (current version 3.12). Learn how to install and use SafeStrap HERE.
