Swype getting dumber?

Either Swype is getting dumber or I am.

Are there any other Swype users out there that are finding the word prediction of Swype to have significantly degraded? Lately I have been seriously thinking of giving up on it because it takes me longer to correct entries than straightforward text entry.

I have played with the settings a bit to see if that would take care of things but it hasn't seemed to help (speed vs. accuracy, etc.).

Yes, I have and its very frustrating. If someone knows how to fix this I am all ears. I have tried to edit the settings and still doesn't help.

Well I'm glad to know it's not just me. I have been a devoted user of Swype since my Droid X days. It seemed to learn from me as I used it initially but lately it is picking obscure words for the most simple entries. My typing time has more than doubled.

Yes I to have noticed this. But the thing that makes me most angry are the completely unused, most obscure words in the world, that I would never use in a text! And if I did I would not want them saved in my dictionary! I (Turku)---case in point!!!---truly think we should have access to the stored dictionary, not just our added words!

That's my point exactly. I swype "that" and get "thus". To make matters worse, "that" doesn't even appear on the selection line. It also doesn't seem to know that "I" should always be capitalized with self correction. I always have to go back and make the correction or select the capitalized version from the options.

I found a Swype forum and it looks like the general consensus is that Swype does seem to be getting dumber. I have installed the trial verson of Swiftkey and will be giving that a try.

I have felt the same way for a while. I switched to message ease. It's definitely weird, and the word prediction is terrible, but I can still text faster.
